Visitation: Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home of Okawville, IL on Wednesday from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. and on Thursday from 7:30 A.M. until 9 A.M. then at the church on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the service hour.
 
Services: Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 11 A.M. from the St. Luke Lutheran Church at Covington with Pastor Timothy Mueller officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials: Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. Luke Lutheran Church and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home of Okawville.

Mr. William Schneider of Covington, IL departed this life in the Washington County Hospital at Nashville, IL on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:38 P.M. He had attained the age of 88 years, 6 months and 17 days.

William was born at Covington on June 4, 1921 the son of William and Clara (nee Schnitker) Schneider. He served in the United States Marine Corp during WW II seeing action at the battle of Iwo Jima. He was united in marriage to Bernice Pries in the St. Luke Lutheran Church at Covington on September 28, 1946 and she survives his passing.

Mr. Schneider was a farmer and also worked at National Mines in Nashville for over 45 years until his retirement. He was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at Covington where he served on numerous church committees and boards. He was also a member of American Legion Post #110 of Nashville. William was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting and he especially loved gardening.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 63 years, Bernice Schneider of Covington; two sons, William G. Schneider and Robert Schneider and wife Diane all of Covington; one daughter, Nancy Sprehe and husband Dean of New Minden, IL; four grandchildren, Tracy Kottmeyer and husband Matthew of Mt. Vernon, IL, Matthew Schneider and wife Adria of New Minden, Jill Stein and husband Jonas of Nashville and Tyler Sprehe of New Minden and special friend Courtney Ganz; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wilbert Schneider; and four sisters, Viola Barta, Laura Ahrens, Pearl Varvera and Lucille Groennert.
